The problem
A significant finance strategy and restructuring initiative meant that non-finance teams, particularly sales and marketing, would need to self-serve their reporting and conduct their own initial analysis of business results. A need was also identified for non-finance teams to make better commercial decisions.

However, the sales and marketing teams had limited financial knowledge, hindering their ability to effectively analyse their performance and make informed decisions.
Our solution
To address this challenge, we designed and developed the Finance Fundamentals Program, a comprehensive suite of 10 online modules developed Articulate Rise, aimed at upskilling the sales and marketing teams in the basics of accounting and finance.
The program was tailored to the company’s specific Profit & Loss (P&L) and Balance Sheet structures to ensure real-world relevance. Key elements of our solution included:
-
Module development covering foundational financial concepts, including accounting principles, financial statement interpretation, and analysis of key financial metrics.
-
Tailored content specifically focused on the company’s P&L and balance sheet, enabling the teams to understand the direct impact of their decisions on company financials.
-
Use of our expertise in accounting and finance, supplemented by consultations with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), to ensure accuracy and relevancy.
-
Interactive scenarios and examples to bring content to life, questions and activities to empower teams to perform basic analysis and confidently interpret financial data in their roles.
The outcome
The program successfully equipped the sales and marketing teams with the essential financial skills they needed, leading to:
-
Positive feedback from participants who appreciated the content being pitched at the right level for their roles.
-
Inclusion in the Finance induction program, allowing new starters to quickly understand the company-specific financial structure, particularly the P&L and balance sheet.
-
Enhanced decision-making capabilities, enabling sales and marketing teams to confidently analyse their results and make data-driven decisions.
By giving the sales and marketing teams the financial knowledge they needed, the company empowered them to take ownership of their reporting and analysis, ensuring better financial outcomes and greater alignment with organisational goals.
