As we said in the article, preparing for the future of work isn’t about chasing AI, data or shiny new technology trends, it’s about committing to people. It’s about building skills that are resilient, relational, and responsive to change.

People leaders play a critical role in upskilling their teams and building organisational capability.

Don’t know where to start?  Here are four strategies that will help you:

  1. Model what you want to see The most effective teams have leaders who are visible learners. Share your own learning journey, admit what you’re working on, and invite your team to grow with you. Your behaviour sets the tone.

  1. Balance tech with humanity Automate for efficiency but always ask: How does this enable more human connection? Use tech to free your team from busywork and invest that time in creativity, mentoring, and deeper collaboration.

  1. Create psychological safety High-performing teams speak up. That only happens when people feel safe. Build this daily with open questions like “What’s one thing we could improve this week?” or “Is there anything you wish you could say but haven’t yet?”

  1. Anticipate emerging skills Look ahead two, five, or ten years. What skills will your team need to stay relevant? Consider running future-focused workshops with cross-functional teams to map this out together.

How are you getting your team future-ready?
